Room of Silence
Traude Linhardt counters
the hustle and bustle of the fashionable Maximilianstreet in Munich
with an "room of silence" in an empty store of the "Maximilianhöfe".
During the silly season,
the installation is one of the few occasions to view an exhibition, while most
of the galleries are closed.
The artist lets artificially
age strips of fabric, whose motives remind of archaic shapes,
menhirs in the Brittany or stones in Stonehenge. Feigning
three-dimensionality, the works
communicate the vision of a walk through worlds forgotten long
ago. Similar works
were to be
seen in the neighboring Egyptian Museum some years ago. |
